「台灣美術院」是由國內藝壇聲譽崇隆的臺師大美術系的畢業校友王秀雄、廖修平、傅申、何懷碩、江明賢、黃光男等教授發起並籌備,於 2010 年 10 月在臺北成立,並敦請中央研究院院士、第一任文建會主委陳奇祿博士擔任「台灣美術院」之名譽院長。「台灣美術院」之名稱全銜參照日本最重要之主流美術團體,由岡倉天心所創以東京藝術大學教授為主要成員,培養甚多之美術著名學者與畫家,促成戰後日本美術之蓬勃發展與影響之「日本美術院」。
"Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts" (TAFA) was initiated and organized by a group of distinguished alumni from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, including Professors Wang Hsiu-Hsiung, Liao Shiou-Ping, Shen C.Y. Fu, Ho Huai-Shou, Chiang Ming-Shyan, and Huang Kuang-Nan, all of whom hold esteemed reputations in Taiwan's art community. The Academy was officially established in October 2010 in Taipei, with Dr. Chen Chi-lu, Academician of Academia Sinica and the first Minister of the Council for Cultural Affairs, graciously serving as its Honorary President.
The institutional concept of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts was modeled after the Nihon Bijutsuin (The Japan Art Institute)-Japan's most prominent art organization founded by Okakura Tenshin and composed mainly of professors from the Tokyo University of the Arts. The Nihon Bijutsuin has nurtured numerous eminent scholars and artists, playing a pivotal role in the postwar flourishing and international influence of Japanese art.
「台灣美術院」是一個立足本土,推展臺灣美術,以從事美術創作與理論研究,促進產學官合作,積極拓展國際與華人文化交流,推動並提昇臺灣之美術發展為宗旨。「台灣美術院」促進臺灣專業藝術成就登上國際舞台的學術研究機構,將是臺灣美術之活力與成就的殿堂,也是臺灣民間文化藝術力量的具體展現。

「台灣美術院」成立以來,陸續舉辦了海內外諸多活動如:展覽、研討會、論壇、演講、訪問交流,包括臺北中山國家畫廊兩年一次大展、臺南美術館、臺東美術館、澎湖洪根深美術館,中國中國北京中國美術館、廣東美術館,日本東京松濤美術館、沖繩縣立美術館,大韓民國藝術院美術館,澳洲國家大學美術館,馬來西亞吉隆坡創價美術館...等,皆獲得了極高之評價與回響。
Since its founding, Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts has hosted numerous domestic and international exhibitions, seminars, forums, lectures, and exchange programs. Highlights include:
台灣美術院於2010年元旦由臺灣美術學界與畫壇聲望崇隆之王秀雄、廖修平、傅申、何懷碩、江明賢、黃光男等教授共同發起創立。以從事美術創作與理論研究、促進產學官合作、拓展國際與華人文化交流及資源共享、推動並提昇臺灣美術發展為宗旨。
台灣美術院下設研究發展中心、學術交流中心、教學推廣中心、出版中心、文創產業部、展覽部等六大部門。2017年已成立台灣美術院藝術空間,中長程計劃成立文物藝術館或美術館等。
首屆院士聘請臺灣美術界之教授菁英、畫壇傑出成就與具影響力的陳奇祿、王秀雄、陳銀輝、廖修平、傅申、謝里法、何懷碩、江明賢、吳炫三、江賢二、顧重光、黃光男、曾長生、鐘有輝、詹前裕、林章湖、林磐聳、薛保瑕(按年齡序)等十八位組成,推舉陳奇祿為名譽院長、廖修平為院長、王秀雄為副院長、江明賢為副院長兼執行長、鐘有輝為副執行長。
台灣美術院成立之時原隸屬於財團法人巴黎文教基金會,首次院士大展《傳承與開創》於2010年3月美術節在國立國父紀念館中山國家畫廊舉行。同年5月,由院士王秀雄、廖修平、江明賢、鐘有輝、林磐聳和企業家廖修謙等擔任董事會董事,共同籌款向臺北市政府文化局申請籌組「財團法人台灣美術院文化藝術基金會」,正式登記為合法之民間美術研究機構。董事會推舉王秀雄為董事長,鐘有輝為基金會執行長。董事會並禮聘陳奇祿、王秀雄兩位為台灣美術院名譽院長,廖修平為院長,江明賢為副院長,鐘有輝為執行長。此後台灣美術院便隸屬於財團法人台灣美術院文化藝術基金會。
The Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts was founded on New Year's Day in 2010 by a group of highly esteemed professors and artists in Taiwan's art community, including WANG Hsiu-Hsiung, LIAO Shiou-Ping, FU Shen, HO Huai-Shuo, CHIANG Ming-Shyan.
The Academy is dedicated to artistic creation and theoretical research, the promotion of collaboration among industry, academia, and government, and the expansion of international and Chinese cultural exchange and resource sharing. Its fundamental mission is to advance and elevate the development of fine arts in Taiwan, fostering both creative excellence and academic achievement.
Serving as a leading force in the evolution of contemporary art in Taiwan, the Academy embodies the vitality, vision, and cultural depth of Taiwanese fine arts on the international stage.
The Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts comprises six principal divisions: the Research and Development Center, Academic Exchange Center, Education and Outreach Center, Publishing Center, Cultural and Creative Industries Division, and Exhibitions Division.
In 2017, the Academy established the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts Art Space, and its mid- to long-term plans include the establishment of a Cultural and Art Museum or a Fine Arts Museum.
The First Fellows of the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts
The inaugural group of Fellows of the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts consisted of eighteen distinguished figures—leading professors, accomplished artists, and influential scholars in Taiwan’s fine arts community. They were, in order of age, CHEN Chi-Lu, WANG Hsiu-Hsiung, CHEN Yin-Hui, LIAO Shiou-Ping, FU Shen, SHAIH Lifa, HO Huai-Shuo, CHIANG Ming-Shyan, WU A-Sun, PAUL CHIANG, KU Chung-Kuang, HUANG Kuang-Nan, TSENG Chang-Shen, CHUNG You-Hui, CHAN Chien-Yu, LIN Chang-Hu, LIN Pang-Soong, and HSUEH Pao-Shia.
Among them, Dr. CHEN Chi-Lu was elected Honorary President, Professor LIAO Shiou-Ping was appointed President, Professor WANG Hsiu-Hsiung and Professor CHIANG Ming-Shyan served as Vice Presidents, with Professor CHIANG also acting as Executive Director, and Professor CHUNG You-Hui as Deputy Executive Director
Institutional Establishment and Organizational Development
At its inception, the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts was originally affiliated with the Paris Cultural and Educational Foundation. Its first Fellows’ Grand Exhibition, "Inheritance and Innovation", was held in March 2010 during the Art Festival at the Sun Yat-sen National Gallery, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.
In May of the same year, Academy Fellows WANG Hsiu-Hsiung, LIAO Shiou-Ping, CHIANG Ming-Shyan, CHUNG You-Hui, LIN Pang-Soong, together with entrepreneur LIAO Hsiu-Chien, jointly initiated and raised funds to establish Cultural and Arts Foundation of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, formally registered with the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Taipei City Government as a legally recognized private fine arts research institution.
The Foundation's Board of Directors elected Professor WANG Hsiu-Hsiung as Chairman, and Professor CHUNG You-Hui as Executive Director. The Board also appointed Dr. CHEN Chi-Lu and Professor WANG Hsiu-Hsiung as Honorary Presidents, Professor LIAO Shiou-Ping as President, Professor Chiang Ming-Shyan as Vice President, and Professor CHUNG You-Hui as Executive Director.
Since then, the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts has been officially affiliated with the Cultural and Arts Foundation of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, operating as a leading private institution devoted to the research and promotion of fine arts in Taiwan.



2011年台灣美術院應中國文化部中華文化聯誼會之邀請,8月於北京中國美術館,同年12月於廣東美術館舉行盛大之《開創‧交流》台灣美術院院士作品中國巡迴展與學術研討會,引起廣大之迴響與佳評。
At the invitation of the Chinese Culture Association under the Ministry of Culture of the PRC, the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts held the grand touring exhibition “Pioneering & Exchange” at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing (August) and the Guangdong Museum of Art (December), accompanied by academic symposia. The exhibitions received widespread acclaim and enthusiastic response.
2012年台灣美術院擴大成員組織,陸續聘請蘇憲法、林昌德、李振明、游明龍、郭博州、林俊良與廖新田等藝術精銳加入陣容,5月第二屆院士大展《後殖民與後現代》於國立國父紀念館中山畫廊舉行。
The Academy expanded its membership to include distinguished artists SU Hsien-Fa, LIN Chang-Te, LEE Cheng-Ming, YU Ming-Lung, KUO Bor-Jou, LIN Chun-Liang, LIAO Hsin-Tien. In May, the Second Fellows’ Grand Exhibition “Postcolonial and Postmodern” was held at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei.
2014年5月由廖新田策畫《臺灣 製造 美術》台灣美術院院士作品於澳洲國家大學畫廊展覽與專題演講示範。同年8月應日本東京澀谷區立松濤美術館邀請,舉行《いま、台灣》台灣美術院院士聯展與座談會。
Curated by LIAO Hsin-Tien, "Made in Taiwan: Fine Arts" showcased the works of Academy Fellows at the Australian National University Gallery in May, featuring lectures and demonstrations. In August, the Tokyo Shoto Museum of Art invited the Academy to present "Now, Taiwan (いま、台灣)" - a joint exhibition and forum.
2016年增聘曲德義、程代勒二名新院士,5月於大韓民國藝術院美術館展出《台灣製造藝術:2016台灣美術院海外展─韓國》。
New Fellows CHU Teh-I and CHENG Tai-Le joined the Academy. In May, the exhibition “Made in Taiwan Art: 2016 Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts Overseas Exhibition – Korea” was presented at the Art Museum of the Korean National Academy of Arts.
2017年增聘盧明德、林柏亭、王耀庭等新院士,1月於國立國父紀念館中山畫廊展出《台灣製造藝術:2017台灣美術院院士大展》。
New Fellows LU Ming-Te, LIN Po-Ting, and WANG Yao-Ting were appointed. In January, the exhibition “Made in Taiwan Art: 2017 Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts Fellows’ Grand Exhibition” was held at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei.
2017年11月至2018年2月台灣美術院廖修平、黃光男、江明賢、傅申、謝里法、鐘有輝等五位院士應沖繩縣立博物館美術館邀請參加《徬徨之海:旅行畫家˙南風原朝光與台灣、沖繩》展覽與座談會。
From November 2017 to February 2018, six Fellows — LIAO Shiou-Ping, HUANG Kuang-Nan, CHIANG Ming-Shyan, FU Shen,SHAIH Lifa, and CHUNG You-Hui — were invited by the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum to participate in “The Sea of Wandering: The Traveling Painter Haebaru Choko and Taiwan/Okinawa” exhibition and symposium.
2018年6月應馬來西亞創價學會邀請,於創價學會綜合文化中心舉行《臺灣製造藝術:2018臺灣美術院—馬來西亞展》展覽與座談會。
In June, invited by Malaysia’s Soka Gakkai, the Academy presented “Made in Taiwan Art: 2018 Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts – Malaysia Exhibition” and hosted accompanying talks at the Soka Gakkai Culture Center in Kuala Lumpur.
2019年增聘新院士杜忠誥,2020年1月於國立國父紀念館博愛藝廊舉行《台灣美術院十週年院士大展》。
New Fellow TU Chung-Kao joined in 2019. In January 2020, the “10th Anniversary Fellows’ Grand Exhibition of the Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts” was held at the Bo’ai Gallery, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
2020年4月增聘黃進龍、莊連東、白適銘、劉建成等新院士。12月經董事會決議禮聘江明賢院士為院長。李振明為執行長。八十歲以上為名譽院士。王秀雄、廖修平院士為名譽院長。再增聘洪根深、林雪卿、卓有瑞、潘襎、李億勳等為新院士。
In April, new Fellows HUANG Chin-Lung, CHUANG Lien-Tun, PAI Shih-Ming, and LIU Chien-Cheng were appointed. In December, the Board of Directors elected CHIANG Ming-Shyan as President and LEE Cheng-Ming as Executive Director. Fellows over the age of eighty were designated Honorary Fellows, with WANG Hsiu-Hsiung and LIAO Shiou-Ping appointed as Honorary Presidents. Additional new Fellows included HUNG Ken-Shen, LIN Hsueh-Ching, CHO Yeou-Jui, PAN Fan, and LEE Yi-Syun.

Two major exhibitions were held: “The Sower – 2023 Fellows’ Grand Exhibition” at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and “A Centennial Awakening – 2023 Fellows’ Grand Exhibition” at the National Taiwan Normal University Art Museum.
2024年 台灣美術院新聘院長由蘇憲法接任,黃進龍擔任執行長,一月28日在福華文教會館舉行頒發聘書典禮。
Professor SU Hsien-Fa was appointed as the new President, with HUANG Chin-Lung as Executive Director. The inauguration and appointment ceremony took place on January 28 at the Howard Civil Service International House, Taipei.
2025年 「維度綻放」展:台灣美術院首度參加在巴黎大皇宮舉行的國際年度藝術盛事—2025首都藝術展(ART CAPITAL)。
“Dimensions in Bloom” marked the Academy’s debut participation in the international art event Art Capital 2025 at the Grand Palais in Paris.
